Located in Caribbean Plaza where Steak Social used to be, Chef Dylan Benoit has opened a new Chinese restaurant called Uncle Liu. My family and I ate there for the first time last night, and I have to say it was a hit.
Chef Dylan—known for Prime Kitchen, Carnivore, and other local brands—seems to have the perfect formula for creating successful food businesses in the Cayman Islands. We’ve long needed a higher-end Chinese restaurant here, and Chef Dylan has capitalized on that gap with Uncle Liu.
The complete redesign of the former Steak Social space suits a Chinese restaurant perfectly. The lighting, ambiance, acoustics, and temperature were all on point—definitely an improvement over what used to be there.
Adjacent and attached to another one of Chef Dylan’s ventures, San Is Wu (a noodle bar concept previously at Cannon Place), the two restaurants complement each other well. Both serve high-quality food at fair prices.
During our visit to Uncle Liu, we shared several appetizers and entrées. Every dish was flavorful, well-portioned, and paired nicely with the Asian beers we ordered. We will definitely be going back regularly—great job, Chef Dylan!
Uncle Liu is open daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (345) 525‑2548. You can also check out the menu at https://uncleliu.ky/.
