Hi Jessica, welcome to Grand Cayman!
Unfortunately it's not quite as straightforward here as it was in Ontario. Cayman bans pretty much all forms of gambling under the Gambling Act, and that includes playing online. The law doesn't care where the casino is licensed. If you're sitting in Cayman placing real money bets, you're technically gambling in Cayman.
That said, in practice the police focus on the local "numbers" games and the people running them, not on individuals playing at offshore sites. I'm not aware of anyone ever being prosecuted just for playing online here. So the realistic risk of getting into trouble is low, but it's not zero, and it isn't legal the way it was back home.
A few other things to keep in mind:
Local banks can be funny about gambling transactions, so deposits or withdrawals might get flagged or blocked. There's also no local regulator like iGaming Ontario, so if an offshore site refuses to pay out, you don't have anyone here to complain to. On top of that, the government has been trying to toughen up the penalties over the last few years, so the rules could get stricter.
If you want a definitive answer before opening any accounts, a quick chat with a local attorney would settle it. I'm not a lawyer, just sharing what I know from living here.
Good luck and enjoy the island!
