Since most of our goods here in Cayman are sourced from the United States and the inevitable increase of the cost of goods in the US are we due for large price swings? I know already that the price of goods here in Cayman are already a lot higher than what people in say Canada or the UK pay in particular when it comes to groceries. Why doesn't someone here in Cayman start sourcing goods direct from other countries like Mexico, Chile, Argentina and the like? A lot of the produce we get here already comes from these countries but it's my understanding that first they flow to the US and then come down here. Seems like there's a great opportunity to cut out the middleman here and go right to the source.
I'm sure the imposition of all these tariffs will lead to countries buying direct. I do sort of understand what the US is trying to do here but there are many produces of high quality goods around the world. The world is a big place and I just think that a lot of countries will say screw the tariffs and find other supply chain options.
